šŸ’” How to Use AI to Figure Out Your Conversion Problem

An AI Use Case: From One Founder to Another

I made the classic founder error.

My lead magnet opt-in page was converting at 13.1%.

So what did I do?

Completely overhaul the whole thing and rewrite it.

What happened?

My conversion rate went down to 0%.

Dead serious šŸ˜…

What went wrong?

I didn’t let the data do the talking.

I let my mind, the endless chatter of all the optimizations I should be making, take action.

  • Huge mistake

  • Classic mistake

  • Easily solved with AI

šŸ’” The AI Use Case

I opened a new conversation in ChatGPT and said,

In this conversation, I'm going to put data from the latest landing page test. I updated the copy on the landing pages and noticed a decrease (down to zero) of opt-ins for my lead magnet.

This is the original landing page that was converting:

[Copy-and-pasted the original copy]

This is the new landing page that is getting 0 opt-ins per day:

[Copy-and-pasted the new copy]

What’s the difference between them?

ChatGPT replied:

  1. Too Much ā€œMe,ā€ Not Enough ā€œYouā€

  2. You Lost the Emotional Tension

  3. The Flow Went from Story to Structure

  4. CTA Headline & Body Copy Are Misaligned

🚨 This is when I realized I forgot crucial context

The Google Analytics.

Without this context, ChatGPT was assuming the 0% conversion was caused by the change in copy.

What if I had just gotten less traffic and that was causing the decreased conversion?

More importantly…

Why was I figuring out what relevant data to look for?

ChatGPT should tell me.

Here’s how I should have started my conversation with ChatGPT:

In this conversation, I'm going to put data from the latest landing page test. I updated the copy on the landing pages and noticed a decrease (down to zero) of opt-ins for my lead magnet.

This is the original landing page that was converting:

[Copy-and-pasted the original copy]

This is the new landing page that is getting 0 opt-ins per day:

[Copy-and-pasted the new copy]

I am making the assumption that the copy is the reason for the decrease in conversion. What other data do I need to look at before I can narrow down that the copy is actually the issue?

Now, ChatGPT is activated as my business advisor, strategist, and thought partner.

I’m not leading the charge on this.

I’m telling ChatGPT:

→ Here’s the problem. What information do we need to find the solution?

Since ChatGPT and I are working together on finding a solution, if I’m aware of other relevant data I’ll let it know.

By the way…

The website traffic wasn’t the problem.

It was the copy.

Lesson learned. 🫠

That’s how you create hybrid intelligence.

  • ChatGPT gives me advice from its point-of-view.

  • I give ChatGPT guidance based on my point-of-view.

  • We come together to create two separate minds thinking on the same problem.

  • Each bringing our own expertise and vantage points.

If reading that use case made you think ā€œI should be using AI like thisā€ā€¦

Here’s the truth. You can.

You’re just limited by the prompts you’re using. And the ideas you haven’t had yet.

That’s where ThinkWithAI comes in.

Inside the membership, you’ll get a growing library of high-leverage prompts designed to help you think better about your business.

Without having to come up with them yourself.

P.S. A reminder from Rockefeller on the importance of focused (I tell myself as I reach to scroll X for the 8th time today…)
